- Gomez is a British indie-rock band that formed in the mid-90’s, and have since made six stu­dio albums, of which A New Tide is the most recent.

- The band played their first gig together in late 1996 in Leeds with­out a for­mal name. The band left a sign out which read ‘Gomez the gig’s in here” for a friend of theirs whose sur­name was Gomez to indi­cate that it was the site of their first gig. Peo­ple saw the sign and assumed that the band’s name was Gomez — the name stuck

MY TAKE

First, I will point out that I always wanted to be an airstream dri­ver, just like the cool girl in this song. I lovelovelove vin­tage trail­ers, and though I am not a camper, I am most def­i­nitely a road-tripper. Just as long as we stay indoors, to which a trailer most cer­tainly counts. I can­not wait to retire and own one of these bad boys (ummm, I’m 26, am I even allowed to talk about retire­ment??). Maybe I don’t have to wait until the sun has melted the earth a.k.a. when I’m 70, maybe I can own one when I am a fam­ily woman and raise my kids in it dur­ing the sum­mer as we travel around see­ing the sights of the coun­try and vis­it­ing peo­ple and meet­ing peo­ple and mak­ing art. My kids will make art.

Sec­ond, how about I com­ment on the actual song. I think I have proved my devo­tion to this song by not allow­ing it to exit my brain for the past 6 weeks, even for a short respite. This song is so catchy that I’ve lit­er­ally sang it at least once every other day (and some­times daily, and some­times all day) for over a month now. My fam­ily, fiancee and pos­si­bly a few peo­ple at work are going to kill me if I sing “Oh, airstream dri­ver” out loud one more time. Or the syn­the­sized gui­tar part in the bridge
